Opening this year’s Discovery programme is Maddie’s Secret, the unmissable directorial debut satirizing and skewering content culture from iconic alt-comedian John Early, who plays the titular role, alongside a troupe of comedians including Kate Berlant, Vanessa Bayer, and Conner O’Malley.

Drunk on the attentions of an older boy, a teenage girl accepts an invitation back to his house to listen to records, but she soon finds that he wants to enjoy more than just the music.

15-year-old Maddie Stone rules her school yard under the protection of her family name. But after discovering her notorious father has been arrested, she has to make his bail money or lose the yard. The more Maddie fights, the more her world spirals out of control - and the closer she gets to becoming the man she’s trying to save.

Maddie is an average 14-year-old girl trying to deal with her surroundings. Each day she faces different obstacles and all of her decisions are ultimately made by one of her three personality types: Optimism, Ambition , or Doubt.

The subject of the story is care and love of Vlajko, a lonely clerk, for an abandoned sick child. Through sacrifice, the main character finds the meaning of his monotonous life.

Lucia is a flamenco singer and dancer. At 14, her mother died, leaving her completely alone and without support. Dance and singing became her means of survival.

Eve's Secret is that she's not the elegant society woman she seems to be. In fact, Eve is an unkempt country girl who's been "transformed," Pygmalion style, by European duke Poltava.

A new man comes into the world and his fate is watched over by three female judges. One of them endows him with exceptional qualities, the second puts many obstacles in his way and the third advises him how he can find his happiness in life in spite of everything. But what happens if one of the women judges fails in her task? In a fairy tale story full of suspense, humour and surprises, the kind and wise girl Johanka finds out for herself... There will be a stubborn prince, an unjust and greedy uncle, or a forgetful fairy Tea, but most of all a lot of love, which, as it happens in fairy tales, will help Johanna to overcome almost all the obstacles of fate.
